National Teen Driver Safety Week by Bilan Abdulkadir
During the week of October 16-20, BCHS participated in National Teen Driver Safety Week (NTDSW), which the SADD group facilitated. This week aims to bring public awareness to teen driver safety issues. On Monday, SADD did chalk body images, and safe driving messages. On Tuesday, a crashed car was placed on the BCHS front lawn. The next day, students were encouraged to spin a ‘Wheel of Wisdom’ and prizes were awarded. There was also a driving mat set up with alcohol and marijuana impairment goggles so students could experience the feeling of being under the influence first hand. On Thursday, three positive ticket check stops, with bylaw officers and RCMP and Safe Communities, were set up: one was during lunch at St. Joseph Collegiate, another one also at lunch at the JBS centre, and the other after school at the corner of Sutherland Drive. The positive ticket winners were entered for prizes, these included Tim Hortons gift certificates and Brooks Bandits tickets. On the last day of the week the SADD group had a #GETHOMESAFE photo booth with Halloween themed props. In addition to all of these activities, there was also a longhorn sign (paid for by Safe Communities Committee) in front of IGA with a NTDSW campaign message. A smashed up car was also delivered for the NTDSW days. NTDSW encourages community and youth involvement as part of the solution, and it is great that BCHS was able to take part.

SENIOR B BUFFALOS BRING HOME LEAGUE TITLE by Rebecca Nielsen
The Senior B Girls volleyball team had an exciting end to their season this year at league finals. Their first game against Duchess was a sound victory for the Buffalos, winning the first set 25-10, and then winning the second set 25-19. Serving proved to be the Buffalos’ greatest strength in the battle against the Duchess Eagles, in particular Karen Nielsen served seven points in a row, giving the Buffalos a much needed lead. Middle hitter Hannah Dingwall was also a vital player at the net, scoring multiple pivotal points for her team on hits and blocks. The second game against St.Joes was a much closer match, but the Buffalos pulled ahead to beat the Crusaders 25-22 in the first, and 25-20 in the second. Power Mae Reid was on fire in the first set and kept it going into the second with multiple kills and digs. The final game of the night for the Buffalos was against the Bassano Broncos and proved to be a struggle for the girls. During the first set, setter Cassidy Friesen orchestrated multiple killer plays, but unfortunately the girls lost that set 21-25. In the second set McKenzie Bolen did an impressive job finding holes in the opposition’s defence and tipping to them, though it was not enough for the girls to pull ahead, losing the second set against Bassano 10-25. Wednesday’s games started off on the wrong foot for the Buffalos when they lost their first set of the day to the Rosemary Rockets 20-25. Luckily, this didn’t last for long. In the second set our Senior B Girls crushed the Rockets 25-7. This lopsided victory was partly due to massive hits made by power Willa Aurelio, and gorgeous back row defence executed by libero Brittanie Bruder. In the third set it was a team effort to push past Rosemary, with both the bench and the court talking and communicating to call hits and lines. The final score of the third set was 15-10. Still running on the adrenaline from the nail biting third set against Rosemary, the Buffalos played Duchess and beat them soundly in two sets, with 25-13 in the first and 25-14 in the second. Main contributors to this victory are right sides Samantha These and Maria Montesinos. Both girls played with real intensity and were the terror of the Duchess blockers with amazing hits and tips. Natalie Shiu was also a major player in the game against the Eagles because of her exceptional hit coverage and defence. After all of their hard work over Monday and Wednesday, our senior b. girls found themselves squaring off against Bassano, their biggest rivals of the year, for the league champion title. The both sets were a point for point affair, but in the first set the Buffalos managed to pull ahead and beat the Broncos 25-14. Power hitter Katelyn Rommans’ stellar hitting and tipping was a main reason for the overwhelming win in this first set. In the second set Kim Pisquisa helped keep up her team’s moral with consistent hitting, passing and coverage, playing one of her best games of the year. Unfortunately it was not enough to close the gap in the second set and our senior girls lost 18-25. The third set was nail biting to say the least. Every point was played as if it was the last, and it was a team effort both from the players on the court and on the bench to keep the game even. In the end the score was tied 13-13 when middle hitter Mckenzie Bolen got up to serve, and man did she serve. Bolen served two aces in a row, leaving the score 15-13 and with that leading her team to a gold medal finish in this year’s league finals. “They have attended Rosemary, Crescent Heights High School, and Bassano tournament having a great showing at all three.” says Coach Cassidy Latrace. The Senior B Girls played their last tournament on November 4th at SJC where they lost in the semi-finals to a strong Cremona team.

STRANGER THINGS SEASON 2 REVIEW by Noah Iwaasa
Stranger Things is back with more spooks, more drama, and more fantastic 80s nostalgia that everyone seems to love. This season picks up one year after season one. Will Byers, the boy who disappeared in the first season continues to deal with the aftermath of his time spent in an alternate dimension, while the rest of the group is trying to adjust to normal life. Unbeknownst to them, something sinister is growing beneath Hawkins. This was a great follow-up to the original season. This season is a slow burn, the first few episodes are full of suspenseful scenes and character moments leading up to some truly great final episodes that give payoff to the entire season. Winona Ryder, David Harbour, and the returning kids gave some amazing performances along with newcomers, Paul Reiser and Sean Astin, who add depth to existing characters and the world as a whole. Also I love the fact that they’re trying to do more with the existing cast. For example, who would have thought that I would want Steve and Dustin to team up? I sure didn’t, but now I can’t get enough. However if I have to nitpick, I would say the other new cast member, Sadie Sink, seemed like she was only there to throw a wrench into the dynamic of the established group. Also allow let me speak freely for a second: episode seven is absolute garbage, and it adds nothing to the plot and has some very poor performances. With that being said, season two is still great and a worthy sequel to the first season.
I give it a Triple-Decker-Eggo-Extravaganza/10
